Just the Facts, Ma’am

Those who control the media, arts, and entertainment on both big screens and small wield a large degree of control over prevailing cultural norms. Those who control the flow of the cultural narrative consequently control to no small degree the prevailing culture itself, and hence its political leanings and general outlook.

Recently, I set out on a cyber quest to find out who exactly is in control of our various screens, and what a quest it has become. Like Percival chasing an elusive Grail or Quixote fighting windmills, I jumped from one site to another with no definitive answers in sight. Any general search undermines the idea of a Jewish controlled media as anti-semitic nonsense and article after self-pitying article pops up about how the Jew is a downtrodden victim of blatant anti-semitism everywhere he or she turns, especially since that dreaded Trump fellow took office. The Jews have a term for this: Kvetching; that is, whining, moaning, pointing fingers, playing the victim.

I call it the Jericho tactic. Let’s make a ruckus over here while another group undermines civilization’s walls. No one will notice the shovels and the dynamite over there if we wail at this wall over here loud enough! Wailing, kvetching, moaning; it’s a hell of a distraction tactic. When individuals who ignore the noise march on in a quest for truth lose their jobs and become social pariahs, few will march on. Few will seek the truth. Few will ask questions.

I would like to ask several questions. Why does it feel like chasing one’s own tail when doing a simple Google search for a list of CNN executives? Yes, CNN itself has a list, and it is outdated, depending on the search engine used. Google has one list with plenty of former executives. Bing has a completely different list. Why is the information so hard to come by? Why does one get the uneasy feeling that something has been deliberately made elusive while the purveyors of information call it illusive? If the idea that Jews control the media is nothing more than anti-semitic ash, why is it impossible to prove they do not control our screens and print?

The questions are legion and the not-so-kosher answers have seemingly jumped off a cliff, but a trail was left behind. What do we find when we follow it? We find that Ken Jautz, the current President of CNN is Jewish ; he is the executive who fired Rick Sanchez for an anti-semitic rant about Jon Stewart’s bigotry and the Jews’ disproportionate control of media. Some sites, waiving an obvious bias, say Jauntz is not Jewish. Perhaps he is only a part-time Jew? Whatever the case, this is but one example of internet confusion. The two links below will take you to sites that say he is, in fact, Jewish:

Moving on to Scot Safon, an executive for Headline News. His name comes up under Google searches for the Jewish film festival, the Jewish music festival, and Jewish Business News. He comes up on a search at the same Jew Prom site listed above, but I can’t find his name on the actual list of Jewish broadcasters/entrepreneurs, though he also comes up on an internal search. More confusion and yet, given his obvious involvement in the Jewish community, I’d say he observes Yom Kippur.

Andrew Morse, the Executive Vice President of CNN US and the General Manager of CNN Digital Worldwide is Jewish according to some sites, others don’t mention it at all. Nowhere did I see it expressly stated that he was not Jewish. That could (or could not) mean anything. Clearly, concrete information is hard to come by and the verdict is still out.

Many sites are blatantly anti-semitic, and sometimes comedically so, but I am leaving those aside. Below is a paragraph from a site called “Politically Incorrect” that seems to know all of the media’s goings-on:

The President of CNN’s parent company, Turner Broadcasting, is Jewish (David Levy). His immediate predecessor was also Jewish (Phillip Kent). The majority of Turner’s current C-level executives are Jewish. (Doug Shapiro, Lauren Hurvitz, Louise Sims, Howard Shimmel, and several others). CNN’s current President is Jewish (Jeff Zucker). Throughout its life, two-thirds of CNNs’ Presidents have been Jewish (Jeff Zucker, Walter Isaacson, Reese Schonfeld, and Burt Reinhardt). CNN’s current Vice President is also Jewish (Ken Jauntz). CNN’s U.S. Division has had an unbroken stream of Jewish Presidents since at least the mid 1990s. (Ken Jauntz, John Klein, Rick Kaplan, and possibly beyond). The majority of CNN’s current Executive VP’s are also Jewish. (Allison Gollust, Richard Davis, Amy Entalis, Andrew Morse, and others). Each of the EVP’s mentioned in the last sentence were immediately preceded by someone who was also Jewish. (Albie Hecht, Scot Safon, Susan Bunda, and Mark Whitaker, who served as HLN President and CNN EVP, Marketing EVP, Content Development EVP, and Editorial EVP, respectively). Currently, the three highest ranking individuals in CNN’s Washington Bureau are Jewish (Sam Feist, Adam Levine, and Eric Sherling).

The accuracy of the above is, of course, difficult to determine with any search engine and I do understand why. The question is a sensitive one and I will be the first to admit it is none of my business what religion another person is and quite frankly, I just don’t care. The question, however, is not simply one of private religious practice. When an exclusivist people who are a very small percentage of the population control a very large percentage of something as influential as mass media, there are clearly agendas at play that may very well skew any efforts toward objectivity. Just the facts, ma’am? Maybe, or maybe not. And so, the quest continues.

Rachel Summers
Known as the Dropout Philosopher, Rachel Summers walked away from the Ivory Tower, spent a year in a motorcycle mechanics program, and started research for her first novel, CondAmnation, in a local Harley Davidson shop. Her novels are what some have called a journey into antinomian mysteriosophy, where socially sanctioned morality is turned on its head in order to shake out just a few drops of enlightenment.

Summers holds degrees in History, Comparative Religions, English Literature, and Philosophy but ran afoul of academia when her dissertation proposal was rejected as something that might cause a scandal or, worse yet, cause the check-signing alumni to sign fewer checks. Welcomed to stay and write if she accepted a pre-approved project, she chose to leave and vowed to cause a scandal indeed, whether with pen or sword. She is currently writing her fifth novel as well as articles for the Revolutionary Conservative and Europa Sun Magazine; thus far, the sword remains sheathed.
